In 2019, Claus Hempler was parachuted in to Tønder Festival at the last minute to cover for a sick colleague. He came, he saw and he conquered, as they say. The Danish singer and songwriter returns to Tønder Festival in 2020, bringing songs from his lauded album in Danish Kuffert fuld af mursten (Bricks in the Baggage) (2019), which Danish music critics went wild for. For instance Copenhagen daily Politiken gave the album five hearts, writing, “One part pessimism, one part black humour, this inventory of life is one of the finest and most surprising Danish albums of the year.” Claus Hempler (born in 1970) is unhampered by genre lines and is recognised as one of the best singers in the country. Recent years have seen his popular breakthrough due to his appearances on a TV2 programme called Top of the Pops in 2018 and as the voice behind the theme song to DR tv’s series Herrens Veje (Ways of the Lord). The Funen Crooner was the singer in the Odense band Fielfraz, which was big on the Danish rock scene in the 1990s. Claus Hempler made his solo debut album Hempler in 2004, and has since followed it with four others, among them an album with the singer Dicte.
