Sisters Anna, Sheila and Clare Friel were born in Glasgow, but their family’s roots lie in Donegal Gaeltacht in north west Ireland. They sing, play fiddle, flutes and uilleann pipes, have that special musical affinity that close siblings often show, and are hugely successful in bringing traditional Irish folk music to the stages of Europe, USA and Asia. The Friel Sisters have toured with Altan, The Chieftains, Lunasa and Sharon Shannon. Their debut album The Friel Sisters came out in 2013 to intense interest and fine reviews. In 2016, the trio won the Trophée Loic Raison at Festival Interceltique de Lorient in Brittany. Album number two, Before the Sun, from 2018, garnered even more praise, including a 4-star review in The Irish Times. In 2018, fiddler Clare Friel won the Young Musician of the Year prize in Ireland. Their only Danish festival concert in 2020.
