Hear Danish singer Kira Skov interpret Billie Holiday classics backed by some of the finest jazz musicians in the land. The well-established singer Kira Skov has moved from rock to jazz and on to a quiet singer-songwriter style, with artistic integrity and a healthy curiosity. Her latest album is in Danish: I nat blir vi gamle (Tonight We Grow Old.) Kira Skov often returns to rock and jazz, and this concert focusses on the latter. In 2011, Kira Skov released an album Memories of Days Gone By that got the critics out of their chairs. The album is an homage to the legendary Billie Holiday, but is first of all Kira Skov’s completely personal interpretations of a selection of Billie Holiday songs. Danish music magazine Gaffa gave the album five out of six stars and wrote: “Numbers such as Gloomy Sunday and Flower of the Evening in Kira’s and Dinesen’s (saxophonist Jakob Dinesen) hands achieve an optimal form.” With Kira Skov on stage are some of Denmark’s best jazz musicians: Mads Hyhne, trombone, Jakob Dinesen, saxophone, Heine Hansen, piano, and Mikkel Hess, drums.
