The duo The Small Glories, who played at Tønder Festival in 2017, are continually gaining ground on the international scene. The Small Glories: Cara Luft, (vocal and banjo) and JD Edwards (vocal and guitar) come from Winnipeg and each was a star in their own right on the Canadian folk and roots scene, before joining forces in 2016. JD Edwards had his own JD Edwards Band, while Cara Luft’s soft singing voice earned her plaudits as a singer-songwriter. She was a member of The Wailin’ Jennys until 2005. In The Small Glories, these two contrasting musicians deliver memorable songs with fine harmony vocals. On their debut album, Wondrous Traveler from 2016, this contrast blends in folk and bluegrass ballads and a rocking version of Woody Guthrie and Billy Bragg’s Way over Yonder in the Minor Key. Their latest album is Assiniboine & The Red from 2019. “Luft and Edwards sound at ease in each other’s company and can soon join duos like Mandolin Orange and Shovels & Rope at the peak of americana,” wrote Paste Magazine of The Small Glories. Their only Danish festival concert in 2020.
