The special afternoon concerts, Women’s Circle and Gentlemen’s Circle, have been a very popular feature of Tønder Festival for many years. This year, too, both shows are on the programme. Gentlemen’s Circle comprises five songwriters this year, from USA, Canada and Ireland. The songwriter David Ramirez from Texas, who played at Tønder Festival in 2018, is now back doing his own shows and the Gentlemen’s Circle. From Canada come no fewer than three songwriters: Ariel Posen, whom many will remember as a member of the The Bros. Landreth band; Willie Stratton from Halifax, Nova Scotia; and Aysanabee, whose roots lie with the First Nation peoples of western Ontario. From Ireland we have Liam Ó Maonlaí, known from the band Hothouse Flowers. Songwriter’s Circle has long been a vital part of Tønder Festival’s identity, leading to those magic concert moments when songwriters from near and far meet on stage, swap leading roles, join in on each others’ songs and tell tall tales.
