Leftover Salmon (USA)

Last year's concerts at Tønder Festival marked the European live debut for the band Leftover Salmon, after 35 years as pioneers on the American jamgrass scene. That success brought them back this year. Leftover Salmon will play all four days at Tønder Festival, with a variety of guests on stage. Leftover Salmon started as a progressive bluegrass band in Boulder, Colorado. They quickly made a name for themselves on the local scene, and along with String Cheese Incident and Yonder Mountain String Band, among others, they improvised their way to a new style: jamgrass. Leftover Salmon have bluegrass music as their launchpad, but the music ranges further, over cajun, calypso and country. This variegated soundscape is open to improvisation, with long, psychedelic freestyle riffs reminiscent of the Grateful Dead. Leftover Salmon is Vince Herman, vocal, guitar; Drew Emmitt, vocal, mandolin, guitar; Andy Thorn, vocal, banjo; Alwyn Robinson, vocal, drums; Jay Starling, dobro, keyboards and Greg Garrison, vocal, bass. Leftover Salmon's latest album Grass Roots came out in 2023, and here Billy Strings sits in on a couple of tunes. Their only Danish festival in 2024.
