He is the frontman, singer and songwriter in the seminal band The Mavericks. He has a solo career besides. Raúl Malo (born in 1965) appears at this year’s Tønder Festival both solo and with The Mavericks. He will also sing at the festival’s time-honoured Gentlemen’s Circle on Saturday afternoon. His solo career took off when The Mavericks broke up in 2004. The band reformed in 2012 and have subsequently released a series of albums and toured intensively. Tønder Festival’s audience will have a rare occasion to see and hear Raúl Malo alone with his guitar and his songs. His songwriting is distinctive, a charming mix of country, latin, tex-mex and rock ’n’ roll. From his capable hand we have hits like All You Ever Do Is Bring Me Down, Here Comes the Rain and Dance the Night Away. Raúl Malo has released seven solo albums.
