It’s a major event when American songwriter Sarah Jarosz (born in 1991) comes back to Tønder Festival. She won hordes of fans here in 2011 and 2017. Today, she is one of the most famous personalities on the American folk roots scene. Critics have praised her uncompromising songwriting. This and her excellent singing and musicianship have won her four Grammies and 10 Grammy nominations. Sarah Jarosz has released six albums. In particular Undercurrent (2016) and World on the Ground (2020) drew attention, winning a Grammy each. Through the years, Sarah Jarosz has worked with a star-studded list of musicians and producers, for example John Leventhal, Jerry Douglas, Chris Thile, Tim O’Brien and of course Aoife O’Donovan and Sara Watkins. With the latter two she played in the trio I’m With Her. The trio won a Grammy in 2020 for the songen Call My Name. Both Aoife O’Donovan and Sara Watkins are also appearing this year’s Tønder Festival. Sarah Jarosz masters the mandolin, guitar, mandocello and banjo. She has been compared to singers like Alison Krauss and Gillian Welch, but she undeniably has her own personal, musical touch. Her only Danish festival in 2023.
