The Bothy Band (IRL)

Living legends in Irish folk music, The Bothy Band were to the fore from 1975 until 1979 and are back together now. Most of the members have appeared several times in other contexts at Tønder Festival, but this is the first time they take the stage here as The Bothy Band. This group changed Irish folk music forever and inspired many of their successors. The Bothy Band brought traditional Irish songs and tunes in innovative new arrangements to the major stages of the world. They have a rhythmic punch that was new in Irish traditional music, and which lent incentive to other important bands like Dervish and Lunasa. The Bothy Band was formed by Dónal Lunny (ex-Planxty). Bothy Band saw various line-up changes in the 70s, and guitarist Mícheál Ó Domhnaill died in 2006. The revived Bothy Band has founder members Dónal Lunny, bouzouki; Matt Molloy, flute; Paddy Keenan, uilleann pipes; Paddy Glackin and Kevin Burke, fiddles, Tríona ní Dhomhnaill, keyboard, vocal, and Seán Óg Graham, guitar. This latter is a familiar face at Tønder Festival, since he's been here with Beanda and Fiddler’s Bid. Their only Danish festival in 2024.
