The US songwriter, guitarist and storyteller Walter Parks has one foot in the blues and another in roots music; he has played regularly with Woodstock legend Richie Havens and worked with singer Judy Collins. Primarily now a solo performer, he also plays with Swamp Cabbage, The Unlawful Assembly and not least with Gumbo, Grits & Gravy. The latter are appearing at this year’s Tønder Festival; the other members are Guy Davis and Bruce Molsky. Walter Parks, who was born in Florida, has a comprehensive knowledge of the traditional music culture of southern USA. In 2020, he was invited by The Library of Congress to share some of this deep familiarity with the music and culture of south-east Georgia state, in particular the ‘hollers, hymns and reels’ of the Okefinokee Swamp homesteaders. Walter Parks will be giving a solo concert on the Pump House stage on Sunday afternoon.
