Folk music from Scandinavia and Nordic traditional music, we lump together, acknowledging that there are, of course, many historical and styistic variations from region to region. Shared elements include the fiddle, the mainstay of both the Norwegian, Swedish and Danish folk music traditions. And the rural origins of the music as dance music.
Nordic Traditional designates music that adheres closely to the Nordic folk and dance music traditions or is a newer evolution of these styles, interpreting and blending with other music genres. Folk songs and ballads, either anonymously traditional or composed, with a Nordic background - Danish, Swedish, Norwegian, Finnish, Icelandic, Sami, Faroese etc – are obviously a natural element within the Nordic Traditional genre.
