Added Bonus Music on Tønder Festival Roster

20. June 2022

More good news: This year’s Tønder Festival programme to include more music and events.

Not long ago, Tønder Festival announced that this year’s programme was complete. But why not be generous, and add more music, so that our audience has even more to look forward to?

Names from Home and Abroad
Two Scots bands, Elephant Sessions and The Friel Sisters, are coming back. Irish Heidi Talbot, Canadians The Small Glories and Danish Stine Klingsten are also on the bill.

Povl Dissing Tribute
This really special concert is dedicated to one of the greatest artists in Danish music, Povl Dissing. Homage will be paid by a series of soloists: Kjartan Arngrim, Nive Nielsen, Jakob Bro, Bisse, Rasmus Dissing, Jonas Dissing, Rikke Thomsen and Niels Hausgaard. The band supporting the soloists will be led by all-round musical talent Gustaf Ljunggren, and bassist Tony Garnier, well-known member of Bob Dylan’s band.

Songwriter Gatherings and Music Stories
Another delight in store is Folk Stories. If you know the Rock Stories (Rockhistorier) podcast, by music journalists Klaus Lynggaard and Henrik Queitsch, imagine that converted to a live session focussed on folk and roots music. And don’t forget the popular Songwriters’ Circles: Women’s Circle and Gentlemen’s Circle. On stage will be songwriters from Denmark and abroad, whose names are on the Tønder Festival poster, plus Englishman Allan Taylor, an old friend of Tønder Festival, who will appear only at Gentlemen’s Circle.

There will be singing, not least at the local event called The Joy of Singing Together (KUNSTEN AT GLÆDES I KOR.) Hear more from festival musicians when journalists from Danish music magazine Gaffa interview them at Gaffa Talks. Danish national radio will be represented by live broadcasts on DR P5.

Scots Theme
Scots traditional music has always been an important part of the programme at Tønder Festival. This year, there will be special emphasis on Scotland’s musical culture, so it will be audible and visible throughout the festival site, in particular in and around Tent 2, where audiences will find many of the Scottish musicians at this year’s Tønder Festival. On Saturday 27th August, every single concert in Tent 2 has Scots musicians. Several of the eateries around the festival site will have Scottish food on offer, and the popular Rum & Cigar Bar will be selling fine Scotch whiskies as well. Tønder Festival’s Scottish theme this year is a collaboration with Showcase Scotland, whose aim is to spread the word about Scots music around the world.
