An International Festival is Shaping Up

10. March 2022

Another nine names are added to the 2022 Tønder Festival programme, emphasising its strong international profile.

Happily, the summer of 2022 may well see the return of musicians touring again, and we can enjoy live music from home and abroad. The Tønder Festival 2022 roster is already filling out nicely, and further musicians from overseas are booked, so this year’s festival will be truly international. You can anticipate a Tønder Festival that lives up to form, offering world-class folk and roots music, both veterans and rising stars from the top of the international scene.

Great Songwriters
From Canada we have Connie Kaldor, one of Canada’s major songwriters, who has appeared at Tønder Festival on numerous previous occasions. Also Canadian, but originally from Ireland, comes Irish Mythen, who has won over many Danish listeners’ hearts in recent years. From Ireland we have two of today’s promising songwriters, Mick Flannery and Susan O’Neill, and from down under, the welcome return of William Crighton, one of Australia’s notable voices.

Top Tradition
The Scottish folk rock tradition is in the good hands of Skerryvore, who have a huge following among Danes. Blues and roots music are eminently presented by the duo Hans Theessink and Knud Møller, and the Còig quartet purvey the living traditional music of Cape Breton in Canada.

Danish Musicians
A very special concert experience awaits, when Danish ensemble Efterklang launch a new musical concept, performing with the South Denmark Girls Choir. Also from Denmark is Calby, singing soul, pop and americana.
