John Prine Cancels

16. August 2019

The American songwriter John Prine has cancelled his forthcoming European tour because of ill health. Tønder Festival is working flat out to find an alternative for Sunday evening’s concert in Tent 1.

Sadly, 72 year-old John Prine will not be coming to Tønder Festival this year. Earlier this summer, the legendary American songwriter had to cancel concerts in USA and Canada because of an operation and the necessary time for recuperation. His doctors have recommended a period of rest. This means that John Prine’s European tour in August and September will be postponed.

“We are deeply sorry that John Prine has fallen ill and we send him our heartfelt wishes for a speedy recovery. The festival starts shortly and we are hard at work finding a solution for our Sunday evening concert in Tent 1, where John Prine was to have appeared. We are marshalling the many fine musicians on this year’s roster, and others from our wide contact network, and we have already had many positive responses. But it is too soon to say what the final programme will offer. We trust our audience will understand,” says Maria Theessink, artistic director at Tønder Festival.

John Prine, who played at Tønder Festival in 2015, will be back, and will give a concert on Sunday 30th August at Tønder Festival 2020.

Due to the cancellation, John Prine’s management and record company have this message for his many fans: “We are grateful for the loyal support of his fans all over the world, and John is really looking forward to getting back to what he loves to do.”
