FolkSpot: VííK (NO/DK)

An enchanting world

The Scandinavian ensemble VÍÍK blends its contemporary Nordic roots with atmospheric folk noir and energetic alternative rock.Det skandinaviske ensemble VÍÍK blander sine kontemporære nordiske rødder med stemningsfuld folk noir og energisk alternativ rock.

VÍÍK’s live performances are an experience in themselves, led by Elisabeth’s magnetic charisma as a vocalist and storyteller, backed by a powerful ensemble that effortlessly shifts from introspective delicacy to explosive energy - drawing on everything from playful childlike wonder to unrestrained passion and fury.

At the forefront stands Norwegian folk singer and composer Elisabeth Vik, who lures the audience into an enchanting world of mysterious medieval ballads and fairy tales, flanked by violin, strings, double bass, and drums—together delivering the full spectrum of VÍÍK’s sound, from the massive to the fragile.

Their 2024 debut album ‘SAGT’ made waves across Europe, entering the top 10 of the European World Music Chart just a month after release and showcasing VÍÍK’s unique ability to combine high-energy virtuosity with emotional depth.

VÍÍK’s unconventional spirit and top-tier musicianship have captivated audiences all over Europe - including appearances at Rudolstadt Festival (DE), Dranouter Festival (BE), Nordic Folk Alliance (SE), and in Denmark at Roskilde Festival, ALICE, Hotel Cecil, turkis, and Tønder Festival. Recently, they have also toured North America, performing at Folk Music Ontario (FMO) and Mundial Montreal, where they are building a growing fanbase across the continent with performances that continue to attract international recognition and acclaim.

Audiences can expect a show where carefully crafted musicianship meets raw, untamed expression. With rich, powerful compositions and Elisabeth’s fearless sopran - "risk-taking and wild," as critics have said - VÍÍK invites listeners into a sonic landscape rooted in Nordic heritage and refreshingly rebellious in spirit.
