Niels Hausgaard (DK)

The Danish poet, satirist, songwriter, polemicist and entertainer has made his mark on Tønder Festival since the 70s, and he is of course with us this year, when the festival turns 50. If Niels Hausgaard feels called on to congratulate Tønder Festival on its 50th anniversary, then the least we can do is turn it around and congratulate him. A week after Tønder Festival 2024, Niels Hausgaard turns 80. It is no exaggeration to say that Niels Hausgaard has been on a "never ending tour" since the early1970s. He fills huge venues year after year, when he ranges over the country for four months each winter and spring. This year's show was entitled Oh, boomer and covered 57 sold-out concerts. As last year, pianist Martin Schack was on stage with him. Niels Hausgaard is a bit of a national treasure. He reaches a wide spectrum of the Danish population, and his stage performance has always space for improvisation involving audience reaction. His timing and originality have inspired countless colleagues and his aim with a sharp lampoon is legendary.
