The Savage Rose
60th Anniversary
In 2027, The Savage Rose celebrates 60 years on stage. The band was formed in 1967, when five musicians and a singer met in a basement in Søborg and, cutting across musical genres, created an entirely new and indefinable sound. The debut album “The Savage Rose” was released in 1968 and helped revolutionise Danish rock while defining it as an art form in its own right.
Since then, the band has released 26 albums: major commercial and artistic successes alongside records pressed in small runs, issued both on large, established labels and at the band’s own expense whenever the message mattered more than the format. With classics such as “Dødens Triumf”, “Wild Child” and “Black Angel”, The Savage Rose has managed to release landmark records more than 20 years apart. After the sudden death of composer Thomas Koppel in 2006, albums such as “Universal Daughter” (2007), “Love And Freedom” (2012), “Roots Of The Wasteland” (2014) and “Homeless” (2017) showed that Annisette and the band still had a great deal to say.
For 60 years, The Savage Rose has defended its musical freedom and integrity and dedicated its voice to social justice, peace and freedom – from the slums of the Philippines and Palestinian refugee camps to imprisoned musicians in Turkey and peace movements in the United States. Rolling Stone editor-in-chief David Fricke put it succinctly: “The Savage Rose doesn’t just make music – they make history.”
Annisette is now 78, continues to receive music awards and was nominated for the Nordic Council Music Prize in 2025. At Tønder Festival 2027, she takes the stage with a band featuring backing vocals, keys, Hammond organ, bass, drums, guitar and trumpet – ready to celebrate 60 years of a wild rose that would never be tamed.
