The Danish daily red-top Ekstra Bladet gave Jim Lauderdale's 2023 Tønder Festival concert five stars and the accolade "the real deal." They were not wrong. Schooled in bluegrass, with many years of work with the legendary Ralph Stanley, who died in 2016, Jim Lauderdale knows his way around American roots music. He delivers that authentic Bakersfield country sound, and masters a sensitive ballad to boot. Jim Lauderdale has written over 500 songs, and the list of artists who have sung them includes Mark Chesnutt, Vince Gill, The Dixie Chicks and Elvis Costello. Jim Lauderdale's latest album, The Long and Lonesome Letting Go, appeared last year. Here he returns to bluegrass music with The Po’ Ramblin’ Boys band. Also playing on this record is noted bluegrass aristocrat Del McCoury, with whom Lauderdale records here for the first time. Jim Lauderdale is bringing to Tønder Festival a superb team of young musicians ready and willing to accompany one of country and roots music's true greats. Their only Danish festival in 2024.
