Julie Fowlis (SCO)

The Scots singer and multi-instrumentalist Julie Fowlis sings mainly in Gaelic and is a celebrated interpreter of the Scottish Gaelic music and song traditions. She has appeared at Tønder Festival several times, most recently in 2019. Julie Fowlis was born in1978, grew up in North Uist in the Hebrides and grew up with the Gaelic songs, music and dance from an early age. Her debut album Mar a Tha Mo Chridhe (As My Heart Is) came out in 2005 and attracted great interest for the young Scots singer and musician. Album no.2, Cuilidh from 2007, with top musicians John Doyle and John McCusker participating, brought her international breakthroughg. Julie Fowlis won a series of prizes then, among them BBC Radio 2 Folk Award as Folk Singer of the Year. In 2012, Julie Fowlis sang two songs on the prize-winning Disney film Brave, and that brought Julie Fowlis' voice to a broader audience. Julie Fowlis is not only a sought-after, many-faceted artist, she is also a serious student of Scots Gaelic music and cultural history. Her only Danish festival concert in 2024.
