Only Danish festival in 2025.
Blues, R&B and three Grammy Awards are in the mix when we present the fascinating American musician Fantastic Negrito.
His birth name is Xavier Amin Dphrepaulezz, he was born in 1968 and comes from an orthodox Muslim family. He released his first album in 1996 under the name Xavier. A serious car accident in 1999 put his music career on hold, and it was not until 2014 that he returned with new music. This time under the name Fantastic Negrito and with an album of the same title. In 2015 he won the American Tiny Desk Contest – hosted by National Public Radio, NPR. Since then, he has won three Grammys in the category ‘Best Contemporary Blues Album’, most recently in 2021 with the album Have You Lost Your Mind Yet? (2020). Rolling Stone magazine wrote about the album: “Modern electric blues the way Prince and George Clinton would have it.”
Fantastic Negrito has been prolific in his releases. Among his most recent albums are White Jesus Black Problems from 2022, in which he draws inspiration from his ancestry in 1750s Virginia with a love story between a white woman and an enslaved Black man. In 2023 came the album Grandfather Courage, and most recently Son of a Broken Man in 2024.
Fantastic Negrito performs with a band. The only Danish festival in 2025.
