Friday 28th August brings a programme that stretches wide across folk, country and americana. At its centre stands Emmylou Harris, returning to Tønder for the first time since 2000 to play her only Danish concert as part of her European farewell tour. The 14-time Grammy winner is one of the most influential voices in American music – with over 25 albums, more than 15 million records sold and a place in the Country Music Hall of Fame. Expect an evening of songs, stories, wisdom and the unmistakable Harris sound.

Joining her is indie-folk trio Oliver Hazard from Waterville, Ohio – three childhood friends who have grown from a Facebook studio raffle into one of the most compelling new voices in americana, known for intimate performances where harmonies feel as natural as a campfire by a river. Danish duo Bye Bye Brenda – Stine Bramsen and Kajsa Vala – bring personal country and americana songs with melancholic lyrics and vocal harmonies that Politiken praised for being able to "dispel even a Danish winter gloom." And AySay unite Anatolian folk traditions with Nordic electronica, with singer Luna Ersahin exploring Danish, Kurdish and Turkish identities in a world all her own.

Jake Blount from Providence, Rhode Island, is an award-winning interpreter of Black American folk music whose "Afrofuturist folklore" dissolves boundaries between acoustic and electric, ancient and contemporary – celebrated by NPR, The Guardian and Rolling Stone and a veteran of Newport Folk Festival and Carnegie Hall. The Brothers Comatose from San Francisco bring high-energy bluegrass and americana with tight harmonies and a foot-stomping spirit honed across a decade of festival stages, while Susto Stringband and Lily Fitts round out a Friday steeped in the very best of American roots music.
