Tønder Festival nominated at Americana Music Sweden Awards 2026

The ceremony takes place on Wednesday 20 May at Debaser Nova in Stockholm. The nomination ranks among the most significant industry recognitions a Nordic folk and roots organisation can receive — and this year marks only the second time the award has been presented, making it the only one of its kind in the Nordic region.

Americana Music Sweden is the organisation that gathers and represents the Americana genre in Sweden and across the Nordic countries. Its members include musicians, festivals, agents, record labels and journalists from throughout the region. The awards ceremony spans seven categories, with the Nordic Prize going to the music organisation that has made the greatest contribution to the Americana scene in the Nordic region over the past year.

The nomination is a significant recognition of Tønder Festival as one of the most defining stages for folk, roots and Americana in the North. Since 1974, the festival has built a programme that stretches from American singer-songwriters and Appalachian tradition to Celtic and Nordic folk music, drawing an international audience from more than 30 countries every year. The 2026 line-up includes, among others, Emmylou Harris, Daniel Lanois, Fantastic Negrito and Jake Bugg.

The awards ceremony takes place on Wednesday 20 May at Debaser Nova in Stockholm, with live performances from among others H. Self, The Jems, Stella Adee and The Settlers of Småland. That same afternoon, an industry conference will be held with a delegation from the American and Swedish music industries. The prize is awarded in the categories Artist of the Year, Group of the Year, Breakthrough of the Year, Release of the Year, Promoter of the Year, and the Nordic Prize — alongside an honorary award to be revealed on the night.
