Tønder Festival strengthens its course after a challenging year

Published 30th April 2026

The festival’s gross result has improved considerably

Tønder Festival continues its determined efforts to strengthen the festival’s financial foundation.

At the annual general meeting of Tønder Festival Forening, the annual accounts for 2025 were presented, showing a positive result of DKK 805,826.

The result follows a period of financial challenges and represents an important step in the right direction. At the same time, both the board of directors and management emphasise that the work is far from complete.

"We haven’t reached our goal yet, but we are well on our way. The course we have set gives us reason to be optimistic – and that work continues at full strength leading up to and during this year’s festival", says Mette Bossen Linnet, Chair of Tønder Festival Forening.

A joint effort lifts the finances

The year has been defined by a sharpened focus on financial management and prioritisation. The festival has carried out a number of adjustments, including an increased focus on revenue streams and a critical review of expenditure. Volunteers and staff alike have played a decisive role in this process. Mette Bossen Linnet says: "We have worked systematically through budgets and priorities across the organisation, we have strengthened cooperation between volunteer leaders and day-to-day management, and we have implemented a wide range of adjustments with full respect for the festival’s quality and distinctive character."

The festival’s gross result has improved considerably compared to the previous year and is considered satisfactory.

Long-term focus continues

Although developments are moving in the right direction, there remains a need for consolidation. Tønder Festival’s Director, Kristina Lehmann Schjøtt, expects that many of the initiatives already under way will only reach their full effect in the coming months and in connection with this year’s festival.

"It is crucial for us that we maintain momentum. We continue to work with determination to secure a stronger financial position – without in any way compromising the festival’s high artistic standard and sense of community", says Kristina Lehmann Schjøtt.

Strong engagement at the annual general meeting

This year’s annual general meeting drew a large number of participants, underlining the strong engagement within Tønder Festival and its vibrant member democracy. At the meeting, board members Bodil Jensen and Per Andreasen were thanked for their many years of dedicated service on the board. Both will continue their involvement in the organisation in other key roles. Elections to the board were held, and the following were elected: Mette Bossen Linnet and Jan Willhelmsen. The board will constitute itself at an upcoming meeting.
