Top British Band Retires at Tønder Festival
The kings of British folk rock, Oysterband, bid their farewells as a live band with an extensive tour, culminating in a final concert at Tønder Festival 2025.
Reception at Hagge's on October 10, 2024
Thursday, October 10, 2024, marked a special day for Tønder Festival, as dedicated volunteers were honored for their outstanding commitment over 50 years. Since the festival's beginning in 1974 until today, a total of 11 volunteers, both men and women, have been an indispensable part of the festival’s success and development.
The reception was held in a cozy and intimate setting at Hagge's in Tønder, where the volunteers were celebrated by family, friends, and fellow volunteers, who gathered to honor their lifelong dedication and enjoy an afternoon of festivities with champagne, coffee, and cake, as well as pleasant conversations and anecdotes from the 50-year jubilees’ work at Tønder Festival.
Tønder Festival’s director, Kristina Lehmann Schjøtt, Chairwoman of Tønder Festival Association, Mette Bossen Linnet, and Tønder’s mayor, Jørgen Popp Petersen, each gave special thanks to the volunteers, whose many years of dedication have contributed to Tønder Festival’s unique history and significance for folk music.
As a special thanks for their immense contributions to Tønder Festival, the 50-year jubilees each received a certificate issued by Tønder Festival, as well as a beautiful copy of Tønder Festival’s anniversary poster, presented by the festival’s director. The poster, designed by Lizzy Ross from the American folk duo Violet Bell, is a visual tribute to the festival’s history and musical roots. It combines traditional motifs from Tønder with modern artistic elements, symbolizing the sense of community and the timeless love for music.
“We cannot thank you enough for your many years of loyal work and dedication. You have been an essential part of the festival’s soul and identity,” said Kristina Lehmann Schjøtt during the reception.
We look forward to many more years of strong community and volunteer joy – and we are deeply grateful to all those who have helped create Tønder Festival as we know and love it today.
