The printed festival program is being discontinued

Published 19th May 2025

Starting in 2025, Tønder Festival will no longer produce a printed program

This decision is based on feedback from our audience and our desire to allocate the festival’s resources where they create the most value for our guests.

A clear signal from the audience
In this year’s audience survey, we asked how you find information about the music program at the festival – and the results speak for themselves: Most of you said you use the festival’s app. Those of you who use both the app and the printed program indicated that you could easily get used to using just the app.
The app has also received praise for being easy to use and for the improvements made over the past year. Many of you highlight the feature that allows users to create a personalized schedule that is easy to access and navigate.
Some have mentioned that though it takes a bit of practice, the app quickly becomes an indispensable tool during the festival.

Efficient use of resources and focus on the core experience
Printing and distributing the program costs both money and resources. Since only a relatively small share of the audience uses the printed version, it makes sense to allocate those funds more strategically.

“We’re pleased that so many of our guests have embraced the app – and that they see it as a tool that makes the festival easier to navigate. At the same time, reducing our resource consumption and freeing up funds for other audience experiences makes this a cost-conscious decision,” says Tønder Festival’s artistic director, Maria Theessink.

An alternative for those who miss the paper program
We understand that some people may miss the feeling of holding a physical programme – both for its overview and as a keepsake. That’s why this year we’ll offer a simple, print-friendly schedule that can be picked up for free during the festival.
It will resemble the overview pages from the printed program. And as a tribute to our traditions, the lyrics to ‘Will the Circle Be Unbroken’ will be printed on the back.

We look forward to sharing another unforgettable festival experience with you – this year with a sharper digital overview and an even greater focus on what matters most.

You’ll find it in the App Store and Google Play – just search for “Tønder Festival.”
