Veterans and Shooting Stars at Tønder Festival

27th March 2024

Tønder Festival bids a warm welcome to seasoned giants and to rising musical stars at Tønder Festival 2024. Among the treats in store for you are The Bothy Band, Capercaillie, Skipinnish, The McCrary Sisters and Albin Lee Meldau.

It seems only reasonable that musical history be marked in this, Tønder Festival's 50th year. Connoisseurs will rise to applaud the appearance of the influential Irish group the Bothy Band. Active in the 1970s, the Bothy Band have reformed under the leadership of no other than Dónal Lunny.

Two More Anniversaries
Tønder Festival's jubilee year coincides with those of two Scottish bands. Capercaillie, frequent guests at earlier Tønder Festivals, turns 40 this year. And their colleagues Skipinnish, another well-known band at Tønder Festival, celebrate their 25th year. And while we are on the subject of Scotland, the two veteran groups will be joined by previous visitors Fara, from Orkney and a newer band, Kinnaris Quintet, a group who are enjoying geat success with their own creative take on the Scots folk music tradition.

Two Top Swedish Musicians

From Sweden, we have two younger songwriters who have earned note all over  Scandinavia. Melissa Horn played at Tønder Festival in 2018 and returns this year.  Albin Lee Meldau, one of the new big hits in his homeland and in Norway, is here for the first time.

Gospel, Americana and an American Dream
In The McCrary Sisters, from Nashville, USA, the Tønder audience will meet gospel and soul music of an authentic nature. From the same renowned music town comes songwriter Drew Holcomb, who is rated highly on the US americana scene. He'll be here with his band, The Neighbors. Last, but by no means least, there is another first strike for Tønder Festival. We present the newcomer Jon Muq, a songwriter and singer originally from Uganda, now living in USA and on his way to great things.
