Top British Band Retires at Tønder Festival
The kings of British folk rock, Oysterband, bid their farewells as a live band with an extensive tour, culminating in a final concert at Tønder Festival 2025.
Scots band Elephant Sessions is already on the roster for next year's Tønder Festival.
They were to have played on the Open Air Stage on Saturday evening this year, but the show was cancelled because of the violent rainstorm.
Celebrating Tønder Festival's 50th anniversary went well, except for the storm of wind and rain that almost washed us out on the Saturday evening. Safety concerns dictated the closure of much of the festival site, including the Open Air Stage. This was where the brilliant Scottish band Elephant Sesssions were about to perform, when the weather put a stop to it.
To compensate, Tønder Festival can announce that our 2025 audience will not miss the distinguished Scots: Elephant Sessions are the first band on the programme for Tønder Festival 2025.
Scotland's Elephant Sessions have appeared at Tønder Festival several times with their original take on modern Scottish Highland music. Rolling Stone magazine wrote of Elephant Sessions: "These Scots use their instruments as weapons in the war against clichés. We love them." Elephant Sessions blend folk, funk, electronica and much more in a potent neo-folk-cocktail that has intoxicated audiences in the UK, in Europe and Australia. Euan Smillie on violin and Alasdair Taylor on mandolin supply meaty tunes, while Seth Tinsley on bass and synth and Greg Barry on drums and various samples lay the basis for an exuberant set-up that makes a party compulsory.
Their debut album The Elusive Highland Beauty came out in 2014, and things since have only gone upwards for Elephant Sessions. They have won BBC’s Scots Trad Music Award in 2017 and 2022 in the Album of the Year category, and in 2018 for Live Act of the Year, not to mention numerous nominations. Outstanding Commitment Over 50 Years
Thursday, October 10, 2024, marked a special day for Tønder Festival, as dedicated volunteers were honored for their outstanding commitment over 50 years.
Applications for musicians are now open.
It is now possible for bands and musicians to apply to perform at Tønder Festival 2025.
