Top British Band Retires at Tønder Festival
The kings of British folk rock, Oysterband, bid their farewells as a live band with an extensive tour, culminating in a final concert at Tønder Festival 2025.
A 50-year milestone is worth celebrating. And this year's Tønder Festival will be making a song and dance of the occasion.
As always, the festival music programme is a banquet of fine musicians from home and abroad, both youngsters on their way up and seasoned veterans. A special jubilee concert will take place on the Open Air Stage on Thursday 22nd August at 7:15 pm, where you can see and hear Poul Krebs, Niels Hausgaard, Jacob Dinesen, Rikke Thomsen, Jonah Blacksmith, Albin Lee Meldau, Mary Gauthier, Tim O’Brien and many more.
As soon as you step into the festival enclosure, you will meet the jubilee all over. The history of Tønder Festival is naturally centre stage, and the story of the festival through the years will be presented in various forms.
Quench your thirst with a jubilee beer produced by Jacobsen. You may break into song on tasting this beer, since it is brewed in the spirit of the universal sing-song in Tent 1 at the end of each Tønder Festival. If you need something stronger to drink, try the jubilee gin, distilled in cooperation with the local Norlyk Distillery.
Special merchandise will be on sale on site, via www.tf.dk and in the Sport24 shop in Tønder.
The Mill has been renovated, with the original windows back in place. The Yellow House on the festival site, also known as Little Dublin, has also been given an overhaul so it is ready for the crowds and loads of Irish atmosphere. The site itself has a new green oasis in Nyholm Forrest, where you can take a breather under the trees.
Last, but not least, the site will be illuminated by new light installations created in collaboration with lighting designer Mikael Sylvest.
Tønder Festival's history you can read on the festival website TF.dk. And don't forget the media scoop released on the occasion of our jubilee: the podcast Weekend with Pete in five excerpts, interviews with the legendary Pete Seeger. The podcast was made by Swiss radio journalist Jean-Claude Kuner and his Danish colleague Claus Vittus.
Our jubilee will also be marked by a special poster. Songwriter Lizzy Ross, who performed here at Tønder Festival last year, is also a visual artist and designer and has created the work. 50 numbered linocuts of the poster show the artitst's view of Tønder Festival. The posters can be seen and bought in the Millstream shop on the festival site.
