One more musician is announced for this year's Tønder Festival. She has a very well-known name. Rickie Lee Jones has held a place at the top of the world music scene for five decades and has recently been nominated for a Grammy for her album Pieces of Treasure (2023).
Rickie Lee Jones has released at least 15 albums, won two Grammy prizes and had eight nominations. She is an artist close to the authentic soul of the American music that draws on pop, folk, jazz, soul and rock.
The album Pieces of Treasure, which contains jazz standards from the great American songbook, was nominated for an American Grammy in 2024 in the Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album category. It was produced by Russ Titelman, who also worked with Rickie Lee Jones and produced her first releases over 40 years ago.
Her debut album, Rickie Lee Jones (1979), which included hits like Chuck E’s in Love, Easy Money and The Last Chance Texaco, made Rickie Lee Jones an international star at a stroke. The following year, she won the Grammy as Best New Artist. In 1981 the album Pirates came out, gleaning fine reviews and, like the first one, hitting the hight spots on the charts.
At Tønder Festival, Rickie Lee Jones will be performing with her band, and this is her only Danish concert in 2024.
In March, Tønder Festival announced ten other musicians on the 2024 programme, among them The Bothy Band, Capercaillie, Albin Lee Meldau and The McCrary Sisters. More will be revealed in late April.
