Tønder Festival Programme Swells

30th January 2024

Treats in store include Brent Cobb, Asleep At The Wheel, Julie Fowlis and Foy Vance.

Seven names have joined this year's music festival roster. Three strong suits from USA, two fine songwriters from Northern Ireland and Scotland, a moody Norwegian and a audience darlings from Denmark.

Country and Roots Elite
From Georgia, USA, we have Brent Cobb, an eminent songwriter, singer and a star in the world of American country and roots music. For more than 50 years, the legendary American band Asleep At The Wheel have been delivering invigorating western swing, a delightful mix of country and swing jazz. Roots rebel and songwriter S. G. Goodman, from Kentucky, USA, is building a reputation on the international scene.

Scots, Northern Irish and Norwegian
Also on the cards: return visits from three musicians from around here. Scottish Julie Fowlis is a treasured interpreter of the Scots Gaelic song tradition. Foy Vance, from the North of Ireland, was in Tønder in 2017. He is famous for his excellent songs and known for his work with Ed Sheeran. Then there's Sivert Høyem, one of Norway's best – and deepest – voices. He is the lead singer in the band Madrugada, but his new album, out now, is a solo effort.

The Folk Trio Everybody Loves
From Denmark: Folkeklubben, the trio with a knack of uniting the Danish language and captivatingly simple tunes, have been part of the Tønder Festival tapestry since they first appeared here in 2013.
